EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order.)

The Order amends the Treaty Land Entitlement (Saskatchewan) Remission Order, which remits the goods and services tax (GST) paid or payable on land purchases made by certain Indian bands of Saskatchewan in settlement of treaty land entitlement claims pursuant to the terms of binding agreements entered into by the bands, the Government of Canada and the Government of Saskatchewan.

The settlement agreements entered into by the George Gordon First Nation and Pasqua First Nation on August 11, 2008 and September 30, 2008, respectively, are on the same or substantially the same basis as previous agreements reflected in the Remission Order and fall within the meaning of “specific agreement” set out in that Order. These bands are therefore entitled to be added to the schedule to the Remission Order.
