Order Fixing April 1, 2006 as the Date of the Coming into Force of Certain Subsections of the Federal-Provincial Fiscal Arrangements Act

Her Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of Finance, pursuant to subsection 1(2) of An Act to amend the Federal-Provincial Fiscal Arrangements Act and to make consequential amendments to other Acts (fiscal equalization payments to the provinces and funding to the territories) ("the Act"), assented to on March 10, 2005, being chapter 7 of the Statutes of Canada, 2005, hereby fixes April 1, 2006 as the day on which subsections 4.1(3) and 4.92(3) of the Federal-Provincial Fiscal Arrangements Act, as enacted by subsection 1(1) of the Act, come into force.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order.)

The Order fixes April 1, 2006 as the day on which subsections 4.1(3) and 4.92(3) of the Federal-Provincial Fiscal Arrangements Act come into force.

Subsection 4.1(3) sets out how the fiscal equalization payments referred to in subsection 4.1(1) shall be allocated to each eligible province for the fiscal years beginning on and after April 1, 2006. Subsection 4.92(3) sets out how the territorial formula financing payments referred to in subsection 4.92(2) shall be allocated to each territory for the fiscal years beginning on and after April 1, 2006.
