Proclamation Authorizing the Issue and Prescribing the Composition, Dimensions and Design of a Five Dollar Precious Metal Coin

A Proclamation

Whereas subsection 5.1(1) and paragraph 5.1(2)(a) of the Royal Canadian Mint Act provide that the Governor in Council may, by proclamation, authorize the issue of precious metal coins of a description, and of the standards, margin of tolerance and least current weight applicable to that description, specified in Part I of the schedule to that Act and prescribe the dimensions and designs of any precious metal coins;

Now Know You that We, by and with the advice of Our Privy Council for Canada and pursuant to Order in Council P.C. 1998-1725 of September 24, 1998, do by this Our Proclamation authorize the issue and prescribe the dimensions and design of a five dollar precious metal coin

(a) the composition of which shall be silver, and the standards, margin of tolerance and least current weight of which shall be as specified in Part I of the schedule to the Royal Canadian Mint Act,

(b) the diameter of which shall be 38 mm,

(c) the design of the obverse impression of which shall be the approved effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, with the initials "D.H." on the bottom left-hand corner of the neckline, the inscription "ELIZABETH II" at the top and the words "5 DOLLARS 1998" at the bottom of the coin, and

(d) the design of the reverse impression of which shall depict a Canadian maple leaf with, to the left of the leaf stem, the logo of the 90th Anniversary of the Royal Canadian Mint surrounded by an oval line, and with the inscription "CANADA" at the top, "FINE SILVER 1 OZ ARGENT PUR" at the bottom and "9999" on each side of the coin.

Of All Which Our Loving Subjects and all others whom these Presents may concern are hereby required to take notice and to govern themselves accordingly.

In Testimony Whereof, We have caused these Our Letters to be made Patent and the Great Seal of Canada to be hereunto affixed. Witness: Our Right Trusty and Well-beloved Roméo A. LeBlanc, a Member of Our Privy Council for Canada, Chancellor and Principal Companion of Our Order of Canada, Chancellor and Commander of Our Order of Military Merit, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada.

At Our Government House, in Our City of Ottawa, this sixteenth day of October in the year of Our Lord one thousand nine hundred and ninety-eight and in the forty-seventh year of Our Reign.
