WEIGHTS AND MEASURES ACT

Order Respecting Certain Weights and Measures Specifications (1998)

The Minister of Industry, pursuant to paragraph 10(1)(i) (see footnote a) of the Weights and Measures Act and sections 13 (see footnote b) and 27 (see footnote c) of the Weights and Measures Regulations (see footnote d), hereby makes the annexed Order Respecting Certain Weights and Measures Specifications (1998).

ORDER RESPECTING CERTAIN WEIGHTS AND MEASURES SPECIFICATIONS (1998)

WEIGHTS AND MEASURES SPECIFICATIONS SGM-2

1. The Weights and Measures Specifications SGM-2 (see footnote 1), established on March 12, 1979, are repealed.

VEHICLE SCALE SPECIFICATIONS

2. The Vehicle Scale Specifications (see footnote 2), established on October 24, 1991, are repealed.

WEIGHTS AND MEASURES SPECIFICATIONS SGM-1

3. The long title of the Weights and Measures Specifications SGM-1 (see footnote 3) , established on March 12, 1979, is replaced by the following:

RELATING TO THE DESIGN, COMPOSITION, CONSTRUCTION AND PERFORMANCE OF ELECTRONIC COMPUTING AUTOMATIC SCALES

4. Section 1 of the French version of the Specifications is replaced by the following:

1. Normes sur les poids et mesures SGM-1.

5. Sections 2 and 3 of the Specifications are replaced by the following:

2. These Specifications are established pursuant to section 13 of the Weights and Measures Regulations, C.R.C., c. 1605.

INTERPRETATION

3. In these Specifications, "scale" means any automatic weighing machine to which these Specifications apply.

6. Section 4 of the Specifications is replaced by the following:

Except as may be otherwise allowed by a Notice of Approval these specifications apply to any electronic digital indicating computing scale capable of use in trade that has minimum increments of registration of 0.01 pound or less and 10 grams or less; these specifications are to be read in conjunction with the Weights and Measures Act and Weights and Measures Regulations.

7. In section 21 of the French version of the Specifications, the word "spécifications" is replaced by the word "normes".

INTERPRETATION

2.1 In these Specifications, "scale" means any automatic weighing machine to which these Specifications apply.

APPLICATION

3. Except as may be otherwise allowed by a Notice of Approval, these Specifications apply to any electronic digital indicating scale capable of use in trade, other than a conveyor scale or one to which the Weights and Measures Specifications SGM-1 apply.

11. In section 15 of the French version of the Specifications the word "spécifications" is replaced by the word "normes".

COMING INTO FORCE

12. This Order comes into force on June 15, 1998.
