LETTERS PATENT OF AMALGAMATION

Notice is hereby given of the intention of Toronto Mutual Life Insurance Company to apply to the Minister of Finance, in accordance with subsections 245(1) and 249(1) and (as to the proposed new name) section 224 of the Insurance Companies Act (Canada) [the "Act"], for the issuance of letters patent of amalgamation under the Act, amalgamating Toronto Mutual Life Insurance Company with its wholly-owned subsidiary The Western Life Assurance Company. The amalgamated company shall operate under the name "Unity Life of Canada" and, in French, "L'Unité, Assurance-Vie du Canada." The head office of the amalgamated company will be located in Toronto, Ontario.

VILLE DE SAINT-TIMOTHÉE

PLANS DEPOSITED

The Ville de Saint-Timothée hereby gives notice that an application has been made to the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans under the Navigable Waters Protection Act for approval of the plans and site of the work described herein. Under section 9 of the said Act, the Ville de Saint-Timothée has deposited with the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, and in the office of the District Registrar of the Land Registry District of Beauharnois, at Beauharnois, Quebec, under deposit number 276940, a description of the site and plans of a proposed pedestrian bridge crossing the Saint-Charles River, from the retaining wall near the church parking to Nuns' Island (in front), at Saint-Timothée.

Written objections based on the effect of the work on marine navigation should be directed, not later than one month from the date of publication of this notice, to the Superintendent, Navigable Waters Protection Division, Canadian Coast Guard, Department of Fisheries and Oceans, 101 Champlain Boulevard, Québec, Quebec G1K 7Y7.

WINTERTHUR LIFE INSURANCE COMPANY

RELEASE OF ASSETS

Notice is hereby given, pursuant to the provisions of section 651 of the Insurance Companies Act, that Winterthur Life Insurance Company, having ceased to carry on business in Canada, intends to make an application to the Superintendent of Financial Institutions for the release of its assets in Canada.

Policyholders of Winterthur Life Insurance Company opposing the release may file their opposition with the Superintendent of Financial Institutions, Registration and Approvals Division, 255 Albert Street, Ottawa, Ontario K1A 0H2, on or before December 24, 2001.
