CANADIAN INTERNATIONAL TRADE TRIBUNAL

EXPIRY OF TEXTILE TARIFF RELIEF ORDER

Ring-spun Yarns

The Canadian International Trade Tribunal (the Tribunal) hereby gives notice that the tariff relief order (Order in Council P.C. 1999-1342) made on July 28, 1999, to implement the Tribunal's recommendation to the Minister of Finance in Review No. TA-98-004, concerning certain ring-spun yarns, is scheduled to expire (Expiry No. TE-2001-001) on June 30, 2002. Under the Minister of Finance's standing reference, the duty relief provided by this order will cease unless the Tribunal issues a recommendation that tariff relief is still warranted and a tariff relief order is made by the Government.

The tariff relief order concerns the following tariff item Nos.: 5205.14.20, 5205.15.20, 5205.24.20, 5205.26.20, 5205.27.20, 5205.28.20, 5205.35.20, 5205.46.20, 5205.47.20, 5205.48.20, 5206.14.10, 5206.15.10, 5206.24.10, 5206.25.10, 5509.53.10, 5509.53.20, 5509.53.30 and 5509.53.40.

Statistics Canada data show that total imports, in 2000, of the yarns covered by these tariff item numbers amounted to 13 488 811 kg, valued at $55,084,470. Total imports of those same yarns in the first six months of 2001 amounted to 6 093 474 kg, valued at $25,716,862.

Parties requesting or opposing the initiation of a review, pursuant to subparagraph 19(5) of the Textile Reference Guidelines, should file the original and 15 copies of written public submissions containing relevant information, opinions and arguments with the Secretary of the Tribunal not later than October 30, 2001.

If, after reviewing the responses from all parties, there is a request for the continuation of tariff relief, but no opposition, the Tribunal may dispense with the need for a full review and recommend continuation. Alternatively, if there is no request for the continuation of tariff relief, then the Tribunal may dispense with the need for a full review and recommend termination. However, if the Tribunal decides that a full review is warranted, it will issue a notice of review with all relevant information regarding the proceeding. The Tribunal will publish the notice in the Canada Gazette and send it to all parties known to the Tribunal as having an interest in the review, who will then have an opportunity to participate in the review.

Written submissions, correspondence or requests for information regarding this notice should be addressed to: The Secretary, Canadian International Trade Tribunal, Standard Life Centre, 15th Floor, 333 Laurier Avenue W, Ottawa, Ontario K1A 0G7, (613) 993-3595 (Telephone), (613) 990-2439 (Facsimile).

Written or oral presentations to the Tribunal may be made in English or in French.
